Mark Sutton Vane presented on the subject of lighting with shadows at the Museums and Heritage Show at Olympia, London.

Mark presented alongside Ellen Tait of the National Railway Museum at York.  The focus of the presentation was the hugely successful temporary exhibition Destination Stations that was staged at the museum earlier this year.

The focus of the exhibition was the design of iconic railway stations.  Mark chose to light the space with a design that echoed the spectacular grandeur of the glass roofs of the station buildings using shadows projected across the exhibition ceiling.

Richly illustrated with photographs and demonstrations of the shadow technique – known as shadowgraph – the talk covered not only the design of the exhibition but also the impact of the lighting on the visitor experience.
