The design intention was to emphasise the open air story. On the walls of the gallery there are huge panoramas of undulating grassland which we washed with light to create the impression of being outdoors.
Some of the exhibits are light sensitive so a balance of light was applied to protect the pieces on display whilst simultaneoulsy maintaining the feeling of being in natural daylight.
There are windows connecting the gallery with the outside world. We controlled the light coming in the windows and maintained the views out onto the surrounding landscape.
"This is a fantastic new visitor attraction in Salisbury, with some amazing archeological finds, which really brings the story of Stonehenge and ancient Britain to life in a highly visual, imaginative and exciting way." From Culture 24.
