Spencer House is surrounded by residential buildings. Special shields were designed to catch any spill light and prevent it from falling on the surrounding buildings.

The building has been lit to emphasize its three dimensionality, with each urn and statue at the top of the building picked out with light against the night sky. All lighting equipment is concealed in the bushes of the garden and therefore cannot not be seen by day.
