Peterborough

Sutton Vane Associates wrote the lighting strategy for improved town centre lighting in and around Peterborough.  A hierarchy was created to assist the general public with navigating at night, as it was observed that people didn’t always know where they were going. The lighting layout was designed to encourage people into the centre of the town, where Cathedral Square is found. The strategy for Cathedral Square was about creating a friendly night time area which would help increase people’s confidence passing through Peterborough late at night. Pre-existing elements were to be lit such as the guildhall and trees, creating a warm inviting ambience in the area. Decorative highway columns were also suggested to add another layer of light to the space and create some much-needed interest and depth. The town hall was illuminated, not only to reveal its architectural prowess but also to create a focal point for people approaching for further away in the town.
