Stamco Timber Hastings

Stamco in Hastings is a family-owned independent timber merchant. Their original building was a very uninteresting corrugated metal shell. Sutton Vane Associates decided to bring excitement to the façade by adding brightly coloured light that skims along the ridges of the metal on the front of the building. This highlights the intriguing textures and provides much-needed interest.

The darker metal areas are left mostly unlit to create more drama and contrast. Individual windows are also illuminated, using a variety of different colours to create a rainbow of light along the full façade. The project was more than just about lighting a building, it was about enhancing the brand and helping it stand out against competitors. The lighting scheme designed by SVA has made the timber merchants into an icon of the town and turned what was a bland building into a playful and unique landmark.
